What. A. Week.

Back in June, I had the chance to compete in the Black Bear Classic Tournament in and around the Greenville, South Carolina area.  The week started off with the Prospect Select Black Bear Select I Showcase in at Clemson University, and my week was amazing from start to finish.  Huge thanks to the PS crew for putting on such a solid event and giving us the chance to show what we’ve got in front of college coaches.  And another huge thank you to my parents for driving us 20+ hours to South Carolina so that I could have this amazing opportunity.

I got started in the showcase on the mound—fastball topped at 84 MPH with a sharp curveball at 70-71 MPH (spin rate was crazy at 2349). Changeup came in smooth at 78/79 MPH. Felt good to get in rhythm and attack the zone!

Exit velo hit 95 MPH during BP and my outfield velo came in at 83 MPH. Solid swings, good contact, and I’m working every day to push that distance farther. Carried one out to 254 ft and can’t wait to keep working.

A couple more notes:

  • Vertical: 33″ (shoutout leg day)

  • Wingspan: 81″

  • Grip strength: 122 lbs (left) / 128 lbs (right)

  • 60-time: 7.7s — not the flashiest but I’m grinding on speed this summer (I brought my 60-time down to 7.52 at the Top Gun Showcase in San Antonio on July 11th)

Check out my highlight video from the Black Bear Select showcase below and let me know what you think. Appreciate all the support from teammates and family back home in San Antonio, TX.

The Rest of the Trip

Off the field, the trip was just as awesome. After the long showcase and tournament days, my parents and I explored downtown Greenville, SC—super cool vibe, great food, and we checked out the Falls Park on the Reedy and Liberty Bridge (10/10 would recommend for the views alone).

One night we hit up a Greenville Drive minor league game at Fluor Field with my teammates, which was super fun and such great energy.

We even teamed up with one of my teammates to take on an escape room, and yes—we escaped—with 5 minutes to spare!

On the way home, we made an overnight stop in Biloxi, Mississippi, and hit the beach for some chill time. Sand, sunset, and some exploring before heading back to Texas.  Solid way to wrap up an unforgettable trip.

More memories made, both on and off the field. Let’s run it back soon.
